An investment of almost 4 million euros for the construction of new production spaces dedicated to Gluten Free
I Medicei has been working for over 40 years in the gastronomy sector with the production of ready-to-eat dishes resulting from the Italian culinary tradition and the most innovative production techniques. With the Medicei “the culture of gastronomy” has reached everyone’s table and now it will be even more so. Late yesterday evening, Friday 15 December, the new premises dedicated exclusively to the production of gluten-free food were inaugurated at the headquarters of the industry in Montelupo Fiorentino (Fi). An investment of almost 4 million euros for the construction of the building with about 2,500 square meters available where they have found a place: the gluten-free production laboratory and a cold store of about 600 square meters for the storage of finished products ready for destruction to shops and supermarkets throughout Italy. All the products of I Medicei are qualified by high quality standards resulting from a careful selection of raw materials and constant technological research. Thanks to this tireless commitment, in 2014 the company obtained the BRC Certification, the British Retail Consortium, the global standard specific for food safety. Many took part in the inaugural evening among them: the honorable Lorenzo Becattini, the first citizen of Montelupo Fiorentino, Paolo Masetti, the deputy mayor Nesi and the commissioner Londi and the mayor of Lastra a Signa Angela Bagni. Also present is the Italian Celiac Association with its coordinator for Empoli Valdelsa Roberta Campigli. History- In its current form the company was founded in 1995, but its history has its roots in the seventies of the twentieth century when the founder, Loris Paoletti, valued his butcher shops with ready meals, enriching and enlarging the shops he had inherited from his father Carlo. The first gastronomic laboratory saw the light in Florence, then I Medicei moved to Lastra a Signa and since 2004 has its headquarters in Montelupo Fiorentino (Fi) in a continuous development that led yesterday to cutting the ribbon in the new premises dedicated to Gluten Free . The company name is a clear contribution to the Medici family, and in particular to the figure of Caterina whose dishes have made the name of Tuscany great at the French court. The gluten-freeThe new challenge of the Medicei is called Gluten Free: that is the production of healthy and safe foods that are of global fruition, that is, even for that segment of the population, more and more numerous, which needs special care and attention, celiacs. Celiac disease is a widespread disease that causes serious symptoms in which the only cure is the gluten-free diet. The company has worked to produce foods that are not only gluten-free and therefore safe for coeliacs, but also tasty, so that they can be consumed by anyone, without sacrificing good food. All this has led to the creation of the new factory entirely dedicated to gluten-free, since the production of these dishes requires dedicated spaces where the various ingredients do not come into contact with gluten. The foods are packaged in a controlled atmosphere and this allows to increase the shelf life of the product, so that it can be consumed even outside the home. Really a revolution for the celiac who, due to problems of contamination, could not afford to eat outside the home and this excluded him from certain aspects of social life. The Medici has invested time and money in the production of “Gluten Free ready to eat” food that can be consumed at home, in the office, wherever you want it. The Medicei and the Italian food industry – The market and the main economic variables show excellent performances with regard to the Italian food industry: exports are constantly increasing, turnover and total consumption have remained almost unchanged for the first part of this decade, but for 2017 the trend showed a marked improvement with a + 1.5%. With regard to ready meals compared to 2015, 2016 saw an increase in turnover of + 7% and forecasts for 2017 are very interesting. Most of the companies operating in the food sector are small or medium, but very heterogeneous for services and products offered. The Medicei are a good compromise: the recipes of the past are used, using cutting-edge processes, and above all thanks to investments, it is possible to satisfy even more the customer with regard to the service, thanks to the continuous implementation and optimization of logistics . A very dynamic nature that of I Medicei that has employed resources continuously in the production areas, on logistics but also in the search for ever better production techniques. In 2004 the company had about 1,200 square meters of production, 15 employees with a turnover of 2 million and 500 thousand euros. Today the production spaces amount to almost 5,000 square meters, with areas used as laboratories and others to support logistics, with an increase in direct and indirect employees of about 50 units. The results achieved in these years are of absolute importance so that in 2017 the turnover will reach 10 million euros.
